Hardanger Bookmark

This is a hardanger bookmark designed by Carol Pedersen  and taught by her at the Heartland Region Fall 2010 meeting in Davenport, Iowa. Each chapter sends one person to the class and that person then teaches it to the chapter. This is my sample for the June program. The pattern calls for Kreinik very fine braid to be used for the woven bars and attaching the beads, but I used DMC #12 pearl in cream.

One of my stitching friends (Becky) shared a hint for marking your fabric for hardanger. Instead of using a bright colored piece of thread to mark your groups of stitches, use Sulky Sliver Metallic. Yes, it is sliver, not silver! This can be found at JoAnn’s and comes in many colors. (Wait for the thread sale to buy it.) I use blue for my light colored fabrics and gold for the dark fabrics. Because it is a flat, ribbon like metallic, as you are stitching you will not split it with your needle. It also comes out very easily once your project is complete and won’t leave any stray fibers.
